At the beginning of June Offroad – Germany was still on the way back to “normality” and the Maxxis Cross Country Championship should take place this year in at least a hull version. The planning was in full swing. But due to the worsening corona situation, the widely forecast fourth wave and all the associated restrictions, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the GCC locations to actually obtain the relevant permits. GCC traditional organizer Schefflenz had to experience this painfully. The authorities there would only grant the planned event on September 4th and 5th, if at all, only a very short-term and conditional approval to carry out. For the team around MSC boss Harry Wansner, but also for GCC race manager Christian Hens, such a “wobbly game” is out of the question. “The effort and risk are disproportionate to the chance of implementation”, so the two of them in their joint statement. Due to this cancellation, no series classification is possible this year. The previous registrations are therefore not “armed”. The updated tender will be put online shortly. In the end, the GCC community is looking forward to the last two opportunities for a GCC run this year. 02/03 October in Bühlertann and possibly in Triptis at the end of October or beginning of November. The opening of the entry / registration for Bühlertann would then be September 20th. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we will at least hear one more time: “Two minutes until the start …” ![]() |
The European Cross Country Championship The MAXXIS Cross Country Championship is part of the European Cross Country Championship XCC. BABOONS® is the trademark and rights owner as well as the promoter of this championship, which are rated as national series in Germany (GCC) and Austria (ACC). The sport of cross country is one of the most strenuous sports in the world. Around 5000 drivers a year take part in the series’ two-hour races on five to ten kilometer circuits. The racetracks offer different profiles – difficult ascents and descents, forests, mud passes, rocky sections and motocross sections.
