Polaris continues its partnership with the Xtremeplus team ahead of the 2023 Dakar
Promising continuation of a successful tradition: Also in the new season of international cross country rally sport, Polaris Industries is supporting the French team Xtremeplus as outfitter and name sponsor. The CST Polaris Xtremeplus Team, under the direction of Marco Piana, will start with the self-assembled and prepared Polaris RZR Pro XP at selected races of this year’s FIA Europe Cup for marathon rallies and at the Dakar Rally. Since the beginning of the cooperation in 2005, both partners have been able to celebrate many joint successes, including six Dakar class victories and several titles in the FIA T3 World Championship.
“We are very honored that Polaris has once again extended the cooperation with our team,” explains Marco Piana, founder, CEO and rider of Xtremeplus. “We are proud to continue to be a Polaris satellite team with official factory support. As such, we will always do our best to represent Polaris Industries on the international rally stage with dignity and with the greatest possible success.”
Polaris and Xtremeplus have worked together since 2005
The partnership between Polaris and Xtremeplus began 17 years ago. Marco Piana and his team decided to compete in the Morocco Rally on Polaris ATVs. The cross-country event served as a dress rehearsal for his Dakar Rally debut a few months later. The move of this most important long-distance and desert rally to South America in 2009 officially marked the start of the cooperation.
Since then, the two partners have achieved numerous successes together. For example, the French Xtremeplus driver Willy Alcaraz won the T3 category of the “Dakar” six times in a row between 2012 and 2017. In 2016, former WRC driver Michele Cinotto from Italy and his compatriot Maurizio Dominella also won the side-by-side classification of this legendary classic. A year later, Spaniard Leandro Torres repeated that triumph for Polaris and Xtremeplus. The CST Polaris Xtremeplus team has also regularly competed in other events such as the Silk Way Rally and marathon events as part of various FIA championships in recent years and has celebrated numerous successes.
Varied schedule of preparations for the “Dakar 2023”
For the coming weeks and months, Xtremeplus is planning to use its Polaris racing vehicles at selected international cross-country events. In preparation for the “Dakar 2023”, which will take place from December 31, 2022 to January 15, 2023 in Saudi Arabia, participation in the Baja Espana Aragon (July 22 to 24), the Hungarian Baja ( August 1st to 3rd) and Baja Poland (September 1st to 4th) – Polaris Germany will be represented by Polaris brand ambassador Lina van de Mars. There is also the two-week Africa Eco Race (October 15th to 30th) starting in Monaco and finishing in Dakar.
